"Fine-Particulate Air Pollution and Life Expectancy in the
United States" From 1978 and 2001, Americans' longevity
increased almost three years to 77, and as much as 5 months of that
can be attributed to cleaner air, researchers from Brigham Young
University and Harvard School of Public Health reported in the New
England Journal of Medicine, 1-22-09.

"Energy Futures and Urban Air Pollution: Challenges for
China and the United States" National Academies. (2007) Air
pollution imposes major costs, both human and economic, and China
could learn from the successes and failures of the U.S. in its efforts to
improve urban air quality, says a new report from the National
Research Council and National Academy of Engineering, produced in
cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese
Academy of Engineering.
